[comp.windows.x] DEC windows in VMS vs ULTRIX

bferguso@bonnie.ics.uci.edu (B. Ferguson) (03/30/89)

Does anyone have any experience with DEC windows under VMS?

Specifically how much of a hassle is it to port X11r3 code on an ULTRIX
box over to a VMS box. The code is vanilla X-lib, no widgets.

We have DEC widows with installation manuals (for V5.2 VMS) but no
documentation on the programming level interfaces, so I can't find out
for myself.

Thanks

Bruce.

We have been using DECWindows under VMS for some time. The current release
should allow you to easily port code using only Xlib routines. Our experience
has shown little difficulty with the X11 part of the code, especially after
release 3. The real difficulties occur with operating system dependent stuff
that does not involve X. The SDC version of DECWindows and the release 3
intrensics are very close together as well....
