[comp.windows.x] shortcoming

jkh@pcsbst.UUCP (Jordan K. Hubbard) (03/31/89)

I've got an application that potentially has many different sources of
"alternate input" registered with the toolkit. For each one, I get
back a unique XtInputId, which seems fine. However, there doesn't
seem to be any way to tell if there's any input/output *Pending*
on one of these guys. XtAppPending() is almost no use as it merely
says that some type of I/O is waiting, not where. I could turn around and do
select()'s the FD's I know are associated with them, but that spoils the whole
purpose of this extra level of indirection (and I like the idea of not
having to assume the presence of select()). Am I missing something, or
is this a shortcoming of the toolkit?
