The problem that Laura Creighton (from Toronto) has in pronouncing
the word Detroit is not uncommon among Canadians. Most newscasters
(especially notable in the CBC) turn the name into a three syllable word,
something like de-troy-it .

laura creighton (from Vancouver, presently living in Toronto) still doesn't know how to pronounce an 'oy' dipthong without stressing it... But at least I know that there are some people that CAN do it... Laura Creighton utzoo!utccsstat!laura
