[comp.windows.x] X11 R1 question

twolf@homxb.ATT.COM (T.WOLF) (04/06/89)

Here's a naive user's question: I understand that the X Server sits
on a "standard" port, namely 6000+N, where N is the display number. Were
X11 R1 applications/servers written to allow multiple displays? (Ie. when
     ^
did this port-selection scheme become "standard"? or has the multiple-display
requirement always been there?) I'm getting an error when I try to start up
the server on display one (instead of zero).

Any information would be appreciated.
