Due to popular demand, I have created "net.database". I solicited comments on a name for this group, and got many responses. "net.db" and "net.dbms" were pretty soundly voted down due to their cryptic & abbreviated nature. "net.data" was rejected as not being clear enough. This group is intended for discussion of both database and data management issues. Unfortunately, "net.database" may not convey the data management issues to some of the people working specifically in that field, but since the distinction doesn't seem too clear to the majority of people (that I've talked to or heard from, at least), "net.database" should convey the whole idea. PLEASE don't creating subgroups like "net.database.ingres" or their ilk. DEMONSTRATE a need for a subgroup first. Post all your dbms and dm material to the main group, and if the volume begins to get too large and some natural divisions occur, then we can consider subgroups. The definition in the list of active groups is a bit vague, on purpose. I have defined the group to be: net.database Database and data management issues and theory. As the group gets used, a working definition may emerge.
