[comp.windows.x] X on IBM/370's

DAN@YKTVMV.BITNET (04/26/89)

Yes definitely but client only. Ask your IBM salesman for ordering
information. The VM version is available and I have used it.
The MVS version may or may not be avail yet (I don't know the
dates). Both products depend on TCP/IP and may even be part of
the same package. It is X11. It will also be available on AIX/370.

It is X11 R2, not X11 R3. This makes a difference as R3 servers do
net get along perfectly with R2 clients. When is X11 R3 going to be
available from IBM? None of our local IBM types seem to know the
answer to that. Wake and and smell the roses IBM, you are a follower
of trends these days and not doing a very good job of it.

Wake and smell the b.s., dude. IBM has been shipping X11.R3 for quite a
while since it released AIX with the PS/2 model 80. The latest AIX for
the RT is also X11.R3 (with some old R2 clients, un update to full R3 is
available for the asking). All of the above mentioned versions of X11
for mainframes are going to be X11.R3. You need to do some more research,
next time. You also seem to have an "attitude" problem. Something
to work on :-)

That's funny. I have been "asking" for about 4 months and just got the gold
release of X.11R3 for AIX on our RT's. Since the upgrade hosed the first client
machine we tried, we have yet to see if it is really release 3. Most "attitude"
problems have very real roots...
