Subject: X-client under MS-DOS? I have an application that must run on a real-time system; it acquires analog data, processes them, and produces summary results. For reasons not important here, it MUST run on an MS-DOS system, such as a PC-AT type clone, which might be '286 or '386-based. A Unix system is not an option here. I would like to turn this application into an X client; instead of (or in addition to) putting its summary results into disk files on the PC, it would be connected via Ethernet to an X server, on which it would open a window and display graphic representations of the processed data. My guess is that I need an Xlib implementation that is usable under MS-DOS, with appropriate hooks to communications software (?TCP). I need to know: (1) Is there any reason this cannot be done? (2) If not, where should I look for more info on how to do it? Is there an Xlib that can be used under MS-DOS? If so, is there communications software that is known to work with it? Anybody out there ever try this? All comments and suggestions gratefully accepted. Please email responses and I will post a summary if interest warrants. David Israel (di@hstbme.mit.edu)
