Ok. First, thanks to those who responded to my post of 2 days ago...
The files on which the compiler was bombing compiled fine without the
-O flag.
To recap, I'm running on an Apollo DN550, SR9.7.
Now the new problem... When I first fired up X, I got the background
pattern, and then the X cursor, though the cursor seemed a bit
washed... The xterm window never came up. Although I could move
the cursor, none of the mouse buttons responded, nor any of the
keyboard. I finally rebooted the machine to get out. (this machine is
stand-alone... no ring. I have /sys/tcp/tcp_server -n running.)
After rebooting, I tried the same thing again, and got the messages...
waiting for X server to begin accepting connections .......giving up.
xinit: I/O error (errno 5): unable to connect to X server
Subsequant tries again produce the latter result. I was never able to
get the X background again.
Any experience with this problem? Any suggestions? THis is my first
time installing X, so these could have some simple solutions. THanks,
-charles
