The official distribution goal of Usenet is to have an article transmitted to 95% of all other sites within 24 hours. Following is a table of the propagation delay to rlgvax (i.e. Date-Received minus Date-Sent). rlgvax gets its news hourly from seismo, so there is not much error if we assume that these numbers also apply to seismo. Since, seismo is a "backbone" site, we aren't doing as well as we would like. No. of Cumulative Days Articles Percent 1 1300 48% 2 631 72% 3 191 79% 4 134 84% 5 136 89% 6 97 93% 7 94 97% 8 13 97% 9 31 98% 10 20 99% 11 8 99% 12 1 99% 13 1 99% 14 1 100% The longest delays seems to be from Oregon/Washington and Toronto/Waterloo Both take 5-7 days on the average. The very long delays (over 9) may be a result of the old articles that have been resubmitted recently. Rick Adams {seismo|allegra|ihnp4|mcnc}!rlgvax!ra
