In order to improve the graphic output of an X application, I would like
to use the Display PostScript system as an extension of the X Window System,
Version 11.
I don't want a *simple previewer* but rather an interactive system with X11
equivalent of stuff like QueryTextExtents (for formatting capability)
or location problem (is this point in this path) .
I've already got all the DPS documentation, and now I would like to know if
the system would *really* exist one day ? (Hey DEC!)
My question is: "Can I plan to have it for my project this year(1989)?"
(I'm ready to buy the workstation coming with).
Thanks for direct responses or pointers.

There was a video tape shown at the January X conference of the Display Postscript extension running. The actual product I don't believe has been announced yet, though the program was announced quite a while ago. But as for exact dates, you should check with your salesman and ask for a non-disclosure meeting. Looks real nice.... So yes, the extension will exist someday, and not too far in the future, given that it was demonstrated running last January. - Jim Gettys Digital Equipment Corporation Cambridge Research Laboratory
