In the past couple of days about three articles came in which
were posted to a list of newsgroups such as:
net.followup, net.misc, net.sport
Note the blanks after the commas. The 2.9 news I'm running
created groups called " net.misc" and " net.sport" .
Readnews seemed to have trouble recording these so I kept seeing
the articles until I removed them by hand.
Can someone tell me if this is a 2.9-only problem, a portability
problem, or everybody's problem? I'll be converting to 2.10.?
soon for those of you who become angered by us who run old versions.

We had the same problem with our 2.9 news. We knew we had a problem when some users reported that their .newsrc files had been chewed up. In looking around, I found the spool directories whose names began with a blank and the similar lines in the active file and the users' .newsrcs. Now we know the cause. Since we have upgraded to 2.10.1, the problem has not recurred... yet. steve campbell ...decvax!dartvax!steve
