I am trying to get X11r3 up and running on the following setup: VaxStation 2000 monochrome 6 megs of memory 1 rd53 8 megs of swap space X11r3 + 10 official fixes (No purdue speedups yet) compiled with gcc 1.35 ULTRIX 3.0 Source via NFS Bin - /usr/bin/X11 It compiled fine. When I login from a remote terminal and execute 'xinit' - the screen clears - the background pattern appears - the cursor follows the mouse correctly - everything dies (no xterm window) with an error message of "waiting for X server to shutdown". Or if xdm is used, it loops through the above sequence forever. In the /dev directory the permissions for some devices are: crw-rw-rw- 1 root system 21, 31 Oct 21 1988 ptyv0 crw-rw-rw- 1 root system 20, 30 Oct 21 1988 ttyv1 crw-rw-rw- 1 root system 20, 31 Oct 21 1988 ttyv0 crw-rw-rw- 1 root system 21, 30 Oct 21 1988 ptyv1 Xterm is '-rwsr-xr-x 1 root system 355328 May 26 12:07 /usr/bin/X11/xterm* I have a link to Xqvss. lrwxr-xr-x 1 root 5 May 26 12:13 /usr/bin/X11/X@ -> Xqvss -rwxr-xr-x 1 root 401408 May 26 11:56 /usr/bin/X11/Xqdss* -rwxr-xr-x 1 root 346112 May 26 11:55 /usr/bin/X11/Xqvss* Any help would be greatly appreciated!! thanks, Doug Gullett University of NC at Charlotte ..!uunet!mcnc!unccvax!wdg wdg@unccvax.uncc.edu wdg%unccvax.uncc.edu@mcnc.org
