Fortunately, NeXT hasn't been forgotten. Athena has sent their people to the headquarters of NeXT to help them work out the X server. It is really a great news for all the users in X world. Steven Job didn't reject such sincere cooperation from MIT. We still expect that the people in the computer field can give up the power struggle and work out the most convenient environment together for the next generation as well as ourselves. -- yin-cheng yt@toros.edrc.cmu.edu ============= mail from athena ============= We (project Athena) sent 3 people to NeXT last week to work on this, and they came back with an X server. Right now it's just a hacked up version of the mfb code in the sample server that comes with the release. Now it has to go through testing and optimization. I don't know if this is a matter of days, weeks, or months. X runs inside a single DPS window, and uses the backing store of the window to get at the bits on the screen (NeXT says this will work, though it is not guaranteed by any documentation). --John Carr (jfc@athena.mit.edu)
