I want to create an application that provides color graphical monitoring and control of intelligent devices from a Sun workstation that is colocated with the devices. At the same time, however, it is highly desirable for someone at a remote location (for example, at home) to dial into the workstation and access the same application using the same user interface. Of course, I'd like to have reasonable response time for the remote user, and the cost of the remote site should be as inexpensive as possible. So, with the X.11 technology as it stands today, is it possible to offer remote dial-up using X protocol? What would the configuration look like? Who's equipment would I buy and what would the cost be? I'd appreciate any advice. If possible, please email to me, and I will summarizes responses if the net desires. Thanks in advance.
