Using twm as a window manager, I always had to wait for several seconds for a new xterm. I don't see the same problem with uwm. Any tip for speeding up twm ? Thanks in advance.

We had a quick look at it and it appeared that xterm tries to interact with the window manager but gets no reply. After a number of seconds the request is timed out. We did not want to spend any time in solving this problem, but maybe the problem is solved in the next X release. I just ran some simple tests to see if anything has improved. I simply typed "xterm" and hit the RETURN key on my Sun 3/60. RandomPlacement was turned on. The time is how long it took for the xterm window to appear. X11R3 twm ~8 seconds latest twm ~2.5 seconds no window manager ~2 seconds I think this was related to the fact that twm was not handling configure requests from unmapped windows, something that xterm does do.
