My copy of Doug Young's "X Window Systems Programming and Applications with Xt" arrived today. Needless to say, I haven't read a lot of it yet, but I'm impressed with what I have read. In fact, it looks so good that I'm tempted to start on a cover-to-cover reading this evening. The only other book I've felt that way about recently was the 4.3BSD book by McKusick et al. I'd expect that someone who's never even heard of X could sit down with Young's book and do interesting things right away. The book does use the HP widgets, but by no means is it a book about the HP widgets. It looks like a good addition to one's library and it's certainly the book I'll give to a would-be X programmer if one walks in the door tomorrow. In case you haven't heard, it's published by Prentice-Hall and its ISBN is 0-13-972167-3. The number I use for Prentice-Hall ordering is 201-767-5937. This is an unsolicited testimonial. I've never had any contact with Doug Young, but I congratulate him on a good job. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Bill Mitchell whm@sunquest.com Sunquest Information Systems sunquest!whm@arizona.edu 930 N.
