[comp.windows.x] xtalk program

daniel@mirsa.inria.fr (Daniel Dardailler) (06/14/89)

I've heard some requests of an talk program on X.

Following is the short abstract of the presentation
I will make at the Xhibition89 (Wednesday, June 28, 9h).

This product will be release free in public domain as soon as it will work
correctly (on top of OSF Motif Toolkit).

Abstract:
--------
Talk is a visual communication Unix program which copies characters
from your terminal to that of another user.
Xtalk allows you to communicate with *several* other X users in different
windows at the same time and to exchange characters and *graphics* as well.
Moreover, xtalk manages an *history* ("minutes" form) of the "window
conference", and provides the same interface facilities as other X clients :
	- menu bars and mouse-drawing mode,
	- active iconification paradigm,
	- various fonts, colors and graphics contexts component,
	- cut and paste functions ...
With xtalk, you can start a conversation with one person or more, add new
talkers or leave at anytime, without disturbing the rest of the meeting.

The xtalk architecture is based on the *SendEvent* request and so there
is no need of any other network protocols than the X Window System
Protocol-V11.

e-mail if you want more precisions on the architecture or the availability.

See everybody soon in San Jose,
daniel.
