[comp.windows.x] X on Sun with serial console?

We use a serial port (ttya) for the console on our Sun 4,
but would like to run X on the unused bitmap display/kbd/mouse.

Unfortunately, it looks as if when autoconfing notices that
ttya is the console, it never initializes the kbd/mouse, so
the X server cannot open them.

Is there any way around this?

This is on SunOS 4.0
