Recently we have installed MIT X11R3 on Sun4/110 and using the accompany Sun sample server. The system runs smoothly, however, the performance is sluggish. We would like to fine tuning the X server. We appreciate any help from anyone who has done this before and willing to share his valuable experience. The Sun4 monitor we have is a 16" color with 1152 x 900 resolution.

You'll do well to make your server with the GNU C compiler (prep.ai.mit.edu:pub/gnu/gcc-1.35.tar.Z). The Purdue speedups (expo.lcs.mit.edu:contrib/Purdue.2.[01]-tar.Z) are for the monochrome framebuffer code, so they may not help much if your 4/110 has only a color monitor. If it has a cgfour, use the Purdue speedups because at least they'll help on the monochrome side - that's what I'm using now.
