[comp.windows.x] X11 on ISC 386/ix

paul@dialogic.UUCP (Paul Bennett) (07/14/89)

I received X11.R3 from ISC today. After some research, it seemed clear that
it would support the Sigma LaserView 7. I had received a review of X displays/
software in reply to a posting I made a while ago, which contained an ISC Xconfig
file that had the Sigma in it. It had a version number of 1.7, dated 89/03/03.
The fact that ISC had a Sigma server was confirmed by other parts of the
review

The X I received from ISC does not support the Sigma. Its Xconfig file is
marked 1.6, dated 89/01/12. I called them, and they say I have the most up
to date release. Can anyone shed some light as to where the 1.7 version came
from ? I *really* want to run on the Sigma, and not VGA ....

We got Xconfig version 1.7 with ISC's X11.3 release 1.0. It
came with the 386/ix version 2.0 (SVR3.2) software. At least
that was what was stamped on the disks. I think we got it in
February or March.

Previous to that, we had a version of X11.2 stamped "alpha".
It came with the 386/ix 1.0.6 (SVR3.0) update we received last
September or October.

Please note that my personal opinion is that the alpha release
was not suitable for development. The 1.0 release is usable
for development if you don't mind having to code workarounds.
Release 1.0 is still not bug free or complete enough to be able
to support a real application being used by unsophisticated users.
