It seems we are having a growing problem with messages disappearing down the bucket in various places. Most of these seem to be caused by sites that don't support or forward various topics, and don't advertise that fact to people downstream. It seems to me that there should be some way to 1> tell when things are disappearing, and 2> where they are going. I think 1> can be partially solved by tracking sites and message-id's and looking for holes. This will at least tell us if messages are disappearing (messages sent to topics that aren't supposed to show up at your site will be recorded as holes, but nothings perfect...). It won't tell us what topic that hole is, or where the hole is being created. What really needs to happen is to have all administrators pass on all news, regardless of whether or not their site supports it (I have always used expire to zap unwelcome topics rather than the sys file for this reason). Barring this unprecedented act of cooperation on the net, I think we need to figure out what topics aren't being passed around and try to get an idea of where the holes are. Throwing this to the wind, any comments/suggestions? chuq -- From the house at Pooh Corner: Chuq 'Nuke Wobegon' Von Rospach {fortune,menlo70}!nsc!chuqui Have you hugged your Pooh today?
