It would be nice to extend the EDITOR environment variable convention in some standard way so that we could specify editors that don't need to be run in an xterm, such as xemacs or Andrew ez. How about using the environment variable XEDITOR for those editors which run on 'raw X', and EDITOR for those which need a terminal emulator backing them up?
