[comp.windows.x] Questions about XwTextedit & keybindings

wolf@cbnewsh.ATT.COM (thomas.wolf) (07/31/89)

I'v recently tried compiling Douglas Young's single-line edit example
(ch4 directory in his source) to see whether it would work on a 386 running
AT&T's X Windows package (XWIN.) It compiled fine, but when I tried
entering text into the edit field created by the program, only "most" of the
keys seemed to have the correct "binding". Some seemed to have retained
emacs-like "qualities." For instance, although the letters, "a", "f", and
"g" entered correctly, the letters "b" and "d" were interpreted as emacs'
"^b" and "^d" respectively. When I later wrote a small program to try
out another toolkit (Openlook), I had the same problem.

Both programs also display a "weird" warning message whenever the textediting
widget is realized. Something to the effect that earlier translation bindings
are being overwritten.

Has anybody else had similar experiences with the XWIN product? Is there
something I forgot to do that is "implicit" in Young's example?

Any help would be appreciated,

Tom
