Hello, we're trying to get to work IBM X-Windows for IBM DOS Version 1.1, from Locus Computing Corp. It works quite fine, but it quickly runs out of memory (three beeps and than a crash). It is very slow, but we think this is caused by the limited amount of memory. We use a PS/2 60 with 6MB extended memory. The extended memory is not used by the DOS X-Server. To solve this we thought we'd use the IBM product Above Disc Version 4.0, from TeleWare West inc. This is a utility that makes extended memory or disc-memory look like expanded memory. The DOS X-Server from Locus provides an option '-ems' which should enable expanded memory. The manual states for this option: 'The DOS X-Server uses expanded memory by making it look like additional DOS memory. This limits the amount of expanded memory to the size of the EMS 'window'. For EMS version 3, the limit is 64K. For EMS Version 4, it may be greater than 64K depending on the capability of your EMS board and memory manager.' It turned out that the DOS X-Server alone had more free memory than combined with 3MB extended memory looking like expanded memory. It seems to me that Above Disc requires more than 64K system memory, so that using it with a window size of 64K reduces the amount of memory. Can anyone comment on this ? Has anyone experience with this combination of software ? Is it possible to increase the 64K window in Above Disc ? Is it possible for the DOS X-Server to 'see' more memory than the window ? Is anyone from Locus or TeleWare West listening ?
