x <-- bugs hate this, or so I hear . . . On our system, net.micro exists as a directory ( /usr/spool/news/net/micro ) which contains subdirectories for each of the subgroups, and files for each of the articles. Our latest net.micro article is # 1787, so there are a few hundred files (recent messages) with numbers from about 1450 to 1787, and directories (16k, 432, 6809, 68k, etc.) for the subgroups. What will happen (in a couple of years) when there is an article #6809? I hope this is not a dumb question. -- Robert P. Munafo ...!{decvax,cornell,linus}!dartvax!robertm

This has been asked before, so I thought it best to reply to the net. Inews will try to write article 6809, it will fail (without harming the directory) and will go on to 6810. Readnews will open up 6809, find it has a bad header, and go on to 6810
