[comp.windows.x] X as a printer protocol?

bpendlet@bambam.UUCP (Bob Pendleton) (08/11/89)

Has anyone considered using X to control laser printers?

It would work something like this: The "screen" would map to the pixel
buffer in the printer. All X commands could be used to render into the
"screen." There would need to be an extension to cause the "screen" to
be printed.

Sounds like the right kind off printer for an environment with lots of
X terminals and X workstations floating around. Not to mention that it
could free you from paying royalties to Adobe.
