[comp.windows.x] What is a widget?

pff@beach.cis.ufl.edu (Pablo Fernicola) (08/17/89)

The tile says it all:
		What is a widget?

Couldn't find that in any of the X windows books that I have, and there
is no X guru around.

Thanks!
Pablo

The Xt Intrinsics define a widget as (section 1.3):

The fundamental abstraction and data types of the X Toolkit is a "widget", which
is a combination of an X window and its associated sematics and which is
dynamically allocated and contains state information. Logically, a widget is
a rectangle with associated input/output semantics....

See the Xt Specification for further details.
