Every now and then I run across a newsgroup posting like the following: Relay-Version: version B 2.10.1 6/24/83; site brl-vgr.ARPA Posting-Version: version B 2.10.1 6/24/83; site qubix.UUCP Path: brl-vgr!seismo!harpo!decvax!decwrl!sun!qubix!msc From: msc@qubix.UUCP (Mark Callow) Newsgroups: net.games.frp,net.misc Subject: Re: zork question Message-ID: <935@qubix.UUCP> Date: Fri, 16-Mar-84 17:37:02 EST Article-I.D.: qubix.935 Posted: Fri Mar 16 17:37:02 1984 Date-Received: Sat, 17-Mar-84 10:42:04 EST References: <708@seismo.UUCP> Organization: Qubix Graphic Systems, Saratoga, CA Lines: 12 There was no text following the above header information, however. That's all that came out with an "s filename"; the header displayed in readnews looked perfectly normal, but when I type a "<CR>", it just gives me the next header, not any of the supposedly-existing "12 lines" of text that is supposed to be there. I went back to this item repeatedly, but cannot get any text displayed. As mentioned above, this sort of thing happens on a few posted items, seemingly at random. What is the explanation? Will Martin

The textless article of mine referenced in the article this is following up began with a ... *TAB* (mea culpa). I thought that enough sites had the article truncation bug fixed that I didn't have to worry any more. I think decwrl was the offending site in this case. They fixed the bug late last week probably just minutes after my article went out. ****All 4.2BSD system administrators please note**** The news 2.10.1 on the 4.2 distribution tape has this infamous bug. Please make sure you fix it. -- From the Tardis of Mark Callow msc@qubix.UUCP, decwrl!qubix!msc@Berkeley.ARPA ...{decvax,ucbvax,ihnp4}!decwrl!qubix!msc, ...{ittvax,amd70}!qubix!msc
