Would it be possible to get a mod.sources.pc or a net.sources.pc started? Preferably the former? I know this was mentioned once or twice, but nothing seemed to happen. I will tally votes if we want to put this up for a vote. I do not have my new machine yet ("Soon Liz, as soon as we finish testing the port"), so I cannot volunteer to moderate at this time (although I would probably be able to within a month). You would probably prefer a more experienced moderator anyway. This group could also be a place to put all those fixes for that misbegotten XENIX :-). Count me in for a 'yes' vote. Looks like the magic number is about thirty 'yeses', so start those cards and letters, folks! Now I have nothing against the concept of a net.sources.pc but... How many of you who so vocally advocate this group *really* want source programs for your pc? I suggest that creating the newsgroup net.sources.pc will not, of and by itself, make source programs materialize. Until net.micro.pc gets so crowded with sources that readers complain (as did the readers of net.apple.mac or whatever before it begat net.sources.mac) I suggest that we table any notion of net.sources.pc. In general, there should be a demonstrated need for a newsgroup (lots of articles within a subject) before a newsgroup is created. Having been around the net for a bit, I've never noticed that lack of a newsgroup to post in prevented anyone from posting their worthwhile programs. -- Byron Howes System Manager -- NCECS ...!{decvax,akgua}!mcnc!ecsvax!bch

I vote NO on net.sources.pc; there are already MORE THAN ENOUGH avenues to get source out: net.sources net.micro.pc mod.sources A posting to any one of these (with perhaps a mention in net.micro.pc that a posting was made) would be sufficient. Mod.sources is particularly good -- the traffic there is low enough (sigh) that almost everyone should be able to read/subscribe. -- Rich $alz {mit-eddie, ihnp4!inmet, wjh12, cca, datacube} !mirror!rs Mirror Systems 2067 Massachusetts Ave. 617-661-0777 Cambridge, MA, 02140
