we try to start X on SUN 3/80 GX. we get the error: Fatal server bug! Can't find any displays so we tried different things like: xinit -- Xsun -dev /dev/cgsix0 xinit -- Xsun -dev /dev/gpone0a and so on. the constype-program produces a "unk". I think that's something like "I don't know". Does anybody know the trick to start X the right way on Sun 3/80 GX? thanx in advance, andy ------------------------------------ Andy Kohl kohl@gmdzi.uucp GMD F3-XPS P.O.Box 1240 D-5205 St.Augustin F.R.G.

This is an identical problem that can occur with our own X server on a Sparcstation. The solution there is to remove all /dev/cg* and then MAKEDEV cgthree . This works fine for our server, but we have put in significant amounts of work in getting the server to check the various devices on startup, so I don't guarantee anything. You will not be able to make use of the GX card with the straight MIT server, since it cannot talk to the cgsix device at all. This would require the server to be rewritten to use the pixrect library. The pixrect library will automatically make use of the GX board it one is available. Hope this is opf some help.
