While running X11 on a Sun 3/60 that was started via: 'xinit -- -dev /dev/cg????' (forgot the exact device spec), I tried to start up xdm in the background just to manage a remote X-terminal. Strange things began to happen, forcing me to break to PROM and reboot. But this made it impossible for me to restart X11 again (via xinit). Well, it starts partially, but I get: X toolkit Warning: unknown color "gray" X toolkit Warning: Cannot allocate colormap entry for "cyan" X toolkit Warning: Cannot allocate colormap entry for "red" X toolkit Warning: Cannot allocate colormap entry for "blue" X toolkit Warning: Cannot allocate colormap entry for "green" ... The only fix that I was able to find was to reinstall X11! There must be an easier way to fix the corruption that xdm caused. Any insight into this problem? How about suggestions on the best way to use xdm to manage remote X-terminals without effecting the local X server? Any tips would be appreciated. -- Dominick Samperi -- Citicorp samperi@Citicorp.COM uunet!ccorp!samperi
