[comp.windows.x] need help putting X windows on a SparcStation

I'm trying to put the MIT distribution of X windows on a
SparcStation and I have managed to get the core to compile.
I ran 'MAKEDEV cgthree0' so there is a /dev/cgthree0.  Then
I ran 
   xinit -- -dev /dev/cgthree0

and got
  Fatal server bug!
  Can't find any displays

  giving up

Can someone help?  Please respond by email since I'm sure this
must have been posted while I wasn't looking.
