Do we still need ba.*? Well, maybe I should ask Mark Stein (but he's
busy), but does 'notes' understand posting responses to the correct
(i.e., original) distributions? If not, we could be opening up some
security problems, as we use notes HEAVILY here with fs.* groups to
talk about dirty laundry...

In fact, I don't see how to get 'notes' to set the distribution even
on an original article (base note).

(Aha! Easy quick test! If this response gets outside ba.*, then notes
is NOT copying the distributions properly. Any non-Bay-Area readers
please mail a short hello?)

Thank you all who responded. (You can stop now... ;-} )

It's clear that 'notes' does NOT handle the "Distribution:"
header "correctly" (if at all). Oh well...

Back to the drawing boards.

Erik Fair has written an awk script which analyzes /usr/lib/news/log.
I find the output interesting and wonder if other Bay Area news admins
would too. I know I'd like to see similar output from other sites.
Perhaps we could all install a crontab entry which posts the output each
night with a distribution of "ba". (like this article is supposed to be.
I'm still not sure I trust it to work and not embarrass me.)

What do you think, guys? I am especially interested in the opinions of
Erik Fair, Mark Stein, and Peter Lipman since they are this site's main
feeds, but other opinions are welcome. Are you out there, Chuck? Dwight?
Brad Eakers? Ken Turkowski? Mike Ellis? John Weeks?
