Greetings: I have noticed the following behavior on out network of sun, hp and convex machines. If a gateway machine between my X server and the host on which the X-Window appliction is running is rebooted, then the X-Window appliction goes away. I do not see this behavior with rlogins. Here is a simplified picture of our network: [fis-backbone] | | [rupert-net] |-rupert------------------------------------------ | | | | | sun-a sun-b convex-a | |-share | | [breezly-net] |-breezly----------------------------------------- | | | | | sun-c sun-d hp835-a | So suppose my X-server is runnibg on sun-a (DISPLAY=sun-a:0.0). I start up an xterm running on sun-d, displaying on sun-a:0.0, and an rlogin from sun-a to sun-d. Now, if rupert or breezly go down, both the xterm and the rlogin hang. When the gateway machine comes back up, however, the xterm vanishes, while the rlogin returns to normal. I have also noted that the xterm usually will disappear if the ethernet cable is disconnected and then reconnected, while the rlogin remains. Any help on this problem would be most appreciated, as we are in the process of switching to X-Windows, and this is causing major problems for us. We do not want our X-based application running on our convex to suddenly die just because the gateway was rebooted... Thanks in advance... Josh Diamond AKA Spidey!!!
