[comp.windows.x] NCD-support.tar.Z available for anonymous ftp

moraes@CSRI.TORONTO.EDU (Mark Moraes) (10/06/89)

NCD-support consists of a hacked 4.3BSDTahoe tftpd and our xdm
configuration scripts. The hacked tftpd fixes the nuisance of an X
terminal dying or being power-cycled and the machine off which it is
hanging not realizing it. It also gets around some of the font
problems we had. Hopefully this will not be needed when XDMCP comes
along.

You can get it by anonymous ftp from cs.toronto.edu (128.100.1.65) --
the file is pub/X/NCD-support.tar.Z.

Have fun.

Excerpt from the README:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
This directory contains the stuff we use to run NCD X terminals off a Sun4
running SunOS4.0. (that's not to say it won't work on other machines, but it
hasn't been tested)

tftpd - is the 4.3Tahoe Berkeley tftpd, modified by Ken Lalonde, DCS,
UofToronto, to support X terminals. The changes are described in the messages
below, from our system local log. It should work compatibly for your Sun
clients -- in fact, you can now compress the boot kernels for your clients...

xdm - is the contents of /local/share/X11/xdm on our Sun4. (We set LibDir to
/local/share/X11 in util/imake.includes/site.def -- the MIT default is
/usr/lib/X11, you may set it to something else) We use xdm to run X on our X
terminals, but we have users using different window systems (or versions of
window systems) on our Sun workstations, so we cannot use xdm there -- we
use the scripts in ../x11. The xdm files are designed to integrate reasonably
smoothly with those scripts.

Both the tftpd and xdm directories have README lines in them with examples
of the stuff you need to add to /etc/rc.local.
