[comp.windows.x] gnu-emacs under X on Dec 3100

dim@cit-vax.Caltech.Edu (Dan Meiron) (10/06/89)

I'm not sure this is the right place to post this message but here goes..
We recently installed a Dec 3100 server and 3 3100 risc clients. Along
with all the supported stuff came gnu-emacs.
I installed it according to the
instructions and everything seems to have worked. The trouble is that
one important feature (incremental search) fails to work when one is
logged in to the console . Under the session manager emacs comes
up as an X client and all seems well until you try a forward incremental
search. Then the search prompt comes down, first character is
echoed faithfully, the cursor moves but then further characters are
trashed, either they don't echo or you get @ signs or the terminnal beeps.
The reverse search works just fine. Is this an emacs problem or
a 3100 problem or an X-problem? If anyone has encountered this
and has some tips I'd really appreciate knowing the story.

You can respond directly to dim@ama-1.caltech.edu.

Thanks, Dan Meiron
