Does anyone have Andrew running on Sun's X11/NeWS merged server, called `xnews'. I can get various applications to have an appearance, but I can't seem to establish a font-mapping procedure that will let xnews understand the Andrew font names. Andrew uses a number of font names of the form "times10", "times12", etc. (The xnews bldfamily command (similar to MIT's mkfontdir) crunches those names into a single font family, "tms".) Andrew then sets up aliases, via the MIT fonts.alias file, so that all font names beginning "andy" are mapped into "times", so that fonts called "andy10", "andy12", etc., are available. The clients use these names. xnews has a different procedure for identifying synonyms to the server, involving loading a PostScript file with defs for the synonyms. The problem seems to be that a point size cannot be specified in these synonyms; that is, "andy" can be a synonym for "tms", but "andy10" cannot (successfully) be a synonym for "times10". It's not clear at what point "times10" even comes to exist. I am not at all sure that I understand this problem, particularly the point at which "family" fonts are translated to specific point-size fonts in the xnews server. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Bill -- Bill Janssen janssen.pa@xerox.com (415) 494-4763 Xerox Palo Alto Research Center 3333 Coyote Hill Road, Palo Alto, California 94304
