[comp.windows.x] prom or no prom for NCD16

eho@clarity.Princeton.EDU (Eric Ho) (10/10/89)

I'm thinking if it is worth it to get a prom-bootable (vs. network bootable)
NCD16. Suppose, I'm getting a 1.5 meg NCD16, would it make a significant
difference in performance in getting prom-bootable NCD16 ? Another thing that
concerns me is about X11R4 -- i.e. if the protocol will be significantly
different then I'm worried that I'll need to spend money again on the
prom-bootable NCD16. If it is not significantly different then I may not have
to worry this too much since I'm just talking about 1 NCD16 and not tens or
hundreds.

Any ponters/advices would be much appreciated.

The protocol isn't changing. But, I suspect you'll continue to see internal
server improvements over time from your terminal vendor; implementations
don't stand still, even if the protocol does.
