The notion of Visuals seems to have mentioned from place to place. From reading some of this news, I assume it is the look of the window such as window border, title bar etc. My questions are: (1) Is Visual simply a concept or a data structure? (2) Where can I find more information? Thank you in advance.

A Visual describes how a colormap works. See the Connection Setup part of the X Protocol (pp 359-360 in the Digital Press book) and Sections 3.1 (pp 27-29) and 10.8 (pp 315-316) of the Xlib manual.
