[comp.windows.x] X with MS-DOS?

hlison@bbn.com (Herb Lison) (10/11/89)

I've heard that there is actually an X-Windows implementation available
under MS-DOS. Is this for real? Can anyone give me additional information
such as the name of the vendor, phone number, comments about performance,
etc. I'm interested in the possibility of porting a small portion of
an X application from a workstation to a PC. I know this is retrograde
beyond belief, but even so, could be interesting.

your information is correct!

actually, the front-page article in MIS WEEK a few weeks ago spoke
about how a manager can recycle the old PC's in stock by making them
into X servers with dos-based X server software.

i saw two in operation at COMDEX chicago this year; one was called
PC-XVIEW and the other has a name which escapes me.

however, they were both being demonstrated at the at&t booth and
so i'd start with you're local at&t rep. if that's no help, send
me some email and i'll dig out a pointer from my files for you.
