I recently answered a poll in net.tv about television watching habits. The person made a good point that he should have sent the poll to net.misc also to expand the number of people that might have responded to the poll. I think that net.poll could be a good forum for this type of thing, when polls span across more than one area of interest. No flames please if this has already been discussed and been shot down. :-) Any comments? Russ Pierce drutx!rkp

You miss the point of newsgroups. They are to separate discussions and confine them to interested readers. If someone unsubscribed to net.tv, why would he want to answer a poll on the subject? Polls belongs in the group of the subject, not in a special group.

I like the idea, post a question, receive mailed replies, post the result. PROBLEMS: 1) double entries 2) dishonest vote count 3) too many questions generating too much mail SOLUTIONS: 1) a moderated group 2) questions to the group moderator to be published in ONE daily/weekly/other posting. ONE mail-response with all the answers to all the questions to an address indicated in the posting (not the author of the question) Anyone with a question must first tally votes. Several tallies allow result verification. Standard answer format allows counting by a simple program. COMMENTS: It may be interesting to have a brief discussion before voting on a question, but that would be gravy. As there are many ongoing discussions in different groups already, a discussion on net.polls would not be neccessary. I'd like a local group also, "polls" to discuss local questions, company, university or city politics or problems. HEY - DEMOCRACY IN ACTION !!!
