We are looking for a good bitmapped font-handling library. We could write it ourselves but would rather save some time and money. We want: * Works under DOS * Works under AT&T Unix V/386 2.0 would be nice, but I think that's a fantasy. * Fast, efficient support of variable width fonts of reasonably arbitrary character size. * Support for X (bdf/snf) font files would be a major plus. (Source for a DOS X server would work nicely) * Support for many EGA/VGA cards would also be a major plus. * No royalties. * Source code MUST be available. (80x86 assembly strongly preferred) * Public domain or commercial stuff is fine. The packages I have seen advertised include: Essential Graphics South Mountain Software Font-Tools Ithaca Street Software GSS Graphics Development Toolkits Graphic Software Systems HALO Media Cybernetics MetaWINDOW/FontWINDOW Metagraphics Software Corp. PCX Text Genus Microprogramming Has anyone had experience (good or bad) with any of these products? Are there other packages out there that might do what we want? Please reply by mail, commercial responses welcome too. Will summarize to the net if sufficient interest. Please direct any followup posts to comp.sys.ibm.pc. Thanks much in advance.
