[comp.windows.x] More ptys needed for xterms

75046.606@CompuServe.COM (Larry W. Virden) (11/06/89)

I am trying VERY hard to set up a 'compute' type server for some X terminals.
I am using a Sun 4/260 running 4.0.3 . What I am finding is that after
about 8-9 users get up (each with about 5 windows) users start getting
out of pty type messages from xterm. I have checked xterm and it is
allowing for ptys from p to z. I have pty's on the system for p thru z.
I have a maxusers of 64 and I have a pseudo-tty entry indicating that
I want 128 ptys. Is there something else that I need to do?

In the kernel file /sys/`arch`/`systemname`/pty.h, change the definition
of NPTY to what you really want it to be. If it looks ok, make sure you
have all the pty devices created, but it sounds loke you have probably done
that. I would be interested in knowing what you fid out if this doesn't
fix it.
