Sorry to bother such a large forum with an insificant question, but: A while back in-this-group/on-this-list we had a discussion about how the ability to reference the server through the network interface in exactly the same way regardless of whether or not the server and client were on the same machine was one of the prime benefits of a network windowing system. In this discussion, an expression was used that I wish to use in a paper on networking and I can't remember it; it was something like "network abstraction" (network <something-or-other>) and referred to the fact that the network interface rendered concerns about the location of the server unimportant.
