[comp.windows.x] X and GNU cc

Does anyone know what is involved in getting gnu cc to compile X?
ie., what needs to be set up in the makefiles and what version
of gcc is needed?  If you happen to know that this is a lost cause,
that would also be helpful.  Respond directly.
