[comp.windows.x] Xcfb/awm oddity ...

dick@sprite.stanford.edu (Richard Roy) (11/21/89)

I have a DECStation 3100 running UWS-2.1, and am using Xcfb, xdm, and
awm. Occasionally, while the system is ostensibly idle, Xcfb will
start chewing up inordinate amounts of CPU, raising the load average
to nearly 2! It will remain there (with the system still unloaded)
apparently until some widow activity, e.g. attempt to expose a window
by clicking at the titlebar (an action set up in .awmrc). The window
does not expose, but the load average immediately drops to essentailly
0! This would appear to be an awm/Xcfb interaction where someone is
continuously polling for input perhaps. Has anyone experienced this
and is there a "fix"?
