I read about Xgks on some of the news items in this group recently. Can you good people out there tell me, (1) What level of the GKS is being implemented in Xgks? (2) Have some of the GKS features be compromised? (3) Do one need a special server to run Xgks, given that scan-conversion has to be done on the server? (4) Who did the Xgks implementation? (5) Where can one obtain a copy? Cost? Thank you in advance. Ghee Teo

Can you good people out there tell me, > (1) What level of the GKS is being implemented in Xgks? Level 2C. Everything is implmented except scalable, rotatable patterns for fill areas. > (2) Have some of the GKS features be compromised? NO. XGKS supports all ANSI GKS output primitives and all logical input devices in all operating modes. > (3) Do one need a special server to run Xgks, given that scan-conversion > has to be done on the server? No. > (4) Who did the Xgks implementation? I did along with 2 others. This was done at the University of Illinois. The work was funded by IBM who also tested the system, provided the Fortran binding, and put together the distribution. IBM's Cambridge group did this work. > (5) Where can one obtain a copy? Cost? Ftp it from expo.lcs.mit.edu (18.30.0.212).
