I am sure this has been discussed many times before. Could somebody please point me to the solution (or documentation about the solution)? How can I convert X10 fonts for use with X11? My application uses a bold font to hilite selections. Under X10, this worked very well with the helv12/helv12b fonts. Unfortunately, in the X11 fonts the equivalent *-helvetica-medium-r-normal-*-14-* and *-helvetica-bold-r-normal-*-14-* fonts do not share the same aspect ratios for their characters (or even similar). This causes lines to get shorter and longer depending on the high-lighting, which is visually disturbing (to put it mildly). Until now, I have saved my keywords as bitmaps, which is quick, but not very flexible. We will soon be casting off X10, which will make it hard to support my applications. An aside question: Where are the standard 9x15, 8x13, 6x13 fonts for VMS DECwindows? I am not a regular VMS user, but my application has been ported there. I was somewhat surprised to find it falling back on proportional fonts under VMS (which was fun to make work, but not something everybody would want to do). ___________________________________________________________ Mike VanHilst mvh@cfa.harvard.edu Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory (617)495-7260 60 Garden Street Cambridge, MA 02138
