[comp.windows.x] Connectathon reminder and comments

jim@EXPO.LCS.MIT.EDU (Jim Fulton) (11/30/89)

I have been asked to remind people that the deadline for Connectathon '90
is coming up (December 15) and to give my views on the event.

Executive summary: If your product is X or is built on X, then you should be
represented there. No ifs, ands, or buts.

Connectathon is an excellent opportunity for you to verify that your software
actually works on a variety of servers, window managers, etc. No marketing or
sales people are allowed; this event is only for the engineers who actually
know how the products work.

Last year marked a very good beginning. Most of the people I spoke to there
were able to find and correct on the spot, problems that they probably would
not have caught until the products were in customers' hands. With the advent
of the ICCCM, testing your product on a variety of platforms is more important
than ever before.

Is this an advertisement for Connectathon? You bet. This is one of the best
ways I know of for a vendor to verify that products work in a heterogeneous
environment.

To register for Connectathon, contact Linda Cwiak of Sun Microsystems at

answer questions about what it was like as an attendee of last year's
Connectathon.
