[comp.windows.x] window managers and map/unmap events

peebles@krell.Berkeley.EDU (Andrew Peebles) (12/01/89)

I got a window manager (its mwm) that performs a particular action
on a window that gets unmapped (via the UnmapNotify event type).
I got an application that wishes to unmap itself WITHOUT THE WINDOW
MANAGER KNOWING ABOUT IT. I don't want the window manager to perform
the action it normally performs on windows that are being unmapped.

I tried to temporarily make the window an override_redirect, unmap
it, then set the override_redirect to False, but the window manager
only sees the initial override_redirect=True and never again manages
the window.

Any window manager/event gurus out there got any ideas?
